The factory can be a dangerous place, be careful not to bump into the forklift or get crushed by the press.

Objectives

  • To improve word recognition skills by finding letters to form words
  • To enhance hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills
  • To increase vocabulary and spelling abilities

Target vocabulary

  • Simple words for the age group

Needed material

  • Computer or tablets with an internet connection
  • Printed visuals of the target vocabulary
  • Whiteboard or large paper with markers

1. Warm-up

  • Begin the class with a quick energizing activity. Have students stand up and do a simple exercise like jumping jacks or stretching to get their blood flowing.
  • Ask them to name their favorite words or things that start with their favorite letters.
  • Engage them in a short discussion about the importance of letters and words in our daily lives.

2. Presentation

  • Show the printed visuals of the target vocabulary words (backpack, saw, monkey, etc.) to the children.
  • Ask them to identify the letters in these words and encourage them to pronounce them.
  • Explain that they will play a game in which they need to find and catch the letters.

3. Practice

  • Introduce the ‘Robot Letter Hunt’ game on the computer.
  • Demonstrate how to play it, including guiding the robot to hunt the letters and complete the words.
  • Encourage them to say the words they form with the letters.

4. Production

  • Organize a hands-on activity with written letters on cut-out cards.
  • Choose a target word from the game and place the letter cards randomly.
  • Ask students to pick the letter cards and arrange them to spell the target words.
  • You can turn this into a competition by timing them or creating teams.
  • Allow them to create their own words with the letter cards as well.

5. To sum up

Gather the children and discuss what they learned during the lesson.

Ask questions like:

  • What words did you find in the game?
  • How did you feel when you successfully spelled a word?
  • Can you create a word using the letter cards?

Encourage them to practice reading and spelling at home.

6. Tip

Here are some of the possible words to appear in the game. We suggest you choose some of them to make the activity proposed in the “production” session.
